What is Tall Poppy
Syndrome?
Tall Poppy Syndrome (TPS) is the name of the disease that causes successful (and often beautiful) citizens to become resented by commoners who envy their incredible skills at the game of life. The syndrome is one of Australia’s leading causes of depression, divorce, suicide, and childhood obesity.
Medical Professionals are beginning to see a disturbing increase in diagnosed cases of ‘ success’.
For TPS victims (Tall Poppies), the syndrome manifests itself in three distinct phases:
Fertilisation: The victim achieves the tragic symptoms of ‘success’ - wealth, happiness, contentment, and attractiveness to the opposite sex.
The Harvest: The victim’s success becomes a launching point of vicious backstabbing from friends, co-workers, and Women’s Weekly “reporters”.
Cut Down (and Out): The Tall Poppy’s continued successes are increasingly resented. The isolation begins that will eventually consume them, leaving them crushed and empty, crying naked and alone on a kitchen floor, nothing but used Lean Cuisine trays catching the tears. (No mum, I’m not looking after myself.)
